Berry Good Lakeridge Winery

"Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards opened its doors in February 1989 in Clermont, Florida. This area was once the center of the State's grape industry. After ten years of phenomenal growth, Lakeridge ranks as Florida's largest premium winery, and remains a pioneer in the development of table and sparkling wines from hybrid grapes. In 2005, more than 110,000 people are expected to visit the winery, its extensive tasting room, and gift shop. With an overall production of over 50,000 cases, Lakeridge wines are sold at the winery and selected wine shops. Vintage-dated varietals from hybrids such as Stover, Suwannee and Blanc Du Bois are produced and marketed along with blended and sparkling wines from native Muscadine grapes. Wines are sold under the Lakeridge and Lakeridge Reserve brands. Together, these labels have won more than 300 awards for excellence in winemaking.

Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards sits on a 127-acre estate in gently rolling countryside some 25 miles west of downtown Orlando. The seventy seven acre estate vineyard consist of Florida hybrid bunch grapes as well as varieties of Muscadines including Noble, Carlos, and Welder. Extensive research continues to be done in the vineyard, and Lakeridge is now regarded by Florida's Department of Agriculture as the premier viticultural development site within the state." Summer Grapes and Berries

"Grapes are one of the oldest cultivated plants. They are classified as true berries because the fruit wall or pericarp is fleshy all the way through. The cultivation of grapes dates back more than 5,000 years in Egypt, and they were highly developed by the Greeks and Romans. Today there are nearly 200 cultivated varieties. Modern cultivars have all been derived from two main species, the European (Mediterranean) Vitis vinifera (a tight-skin grape with wine-like flavor) and the North American V. labrusca (a slip-skin grape with Concord-type flavor). In the European tight-skins, which are used for wines, the skin does not separate readily from the pulp. North American slip-skin grapes are generally more hardy than the European. The fruit is round with a more watery flesh and a thin skin that slips off very easily. The North American V. labrusca is also called the fox grape and is the source of the famous cultivar discovered in Concord, Massachusetts. Concord grapes are the most important American grape for juices, jellies and preserves. They are also used for certain wines. Some of the best wines and popular eating grapes, such as 'Thompson Seedless' and 'Red Seedless' are cultivars of V. vinifera. Sterile, triploid cultivars have been developed that do not produce seeds because of synaptic failure during Meiosis I resulting in non-viable gametes. Several varieties of grapes are dried and used for raisins. The best raisin grapes are selected for flavor, reduced stickiness and soft texture. In the United States, most raisins are produced in California's Central Valley." READ MORE

US HighBush BlueBerry Council

Blueberries are such a brilliant and delicious source of vitamin C and goodness. They are little fruits packed with a punch of health and yummy sweetness.

Blueberries go especially well with the breakfast and dessert meals as well as snacks throughout the day. The smaller berries seem to be a bit sweeter and a different more potent flavor than the bigger plumper berries.

The US Highbush BlueBerry Councils site is a one stop for all of your Blueberry Information needs. This is an awesome laid out site, easy to find what you are looking for. Check it out: http://www.blueberry.org/
